Observer: Yann POTHIER (France)
Your skill: advanced (many years)
Category: planetary nebula
Constellation: CYG
Object data: Vmag=8.8; Bmag=9.8; diam.>25" (27"x24"); type IIIa+II; central
star of Vmag=10.6 (sp.06fp); discovered by W. Herschel in 1793; ELCAT:
[OIII, 496+501nm] = 10 x [Hbeta, 486nm].
RA/DE: 19h44.85m, +50°31.3' (2000.0)
Date and UT of observation: 04 August 1997, 00h05TU
Location & latitude: La Clapiere Obs. (France, latN44 40 00, longE06 27 36)
Site classification: rural, alt.1650m (5500ft)
Limiting magnitude (visual with averted vision in UMi): 6.31 (30% of the time)
Transparency (1 to 5 - best to worst): 1
Seeing (1 to 5 - best to worst): 2.5 (pinpoint stars until 148x)
Moon up (phase?): no
Instrument: Coulter 445mm/17.5" F/4.5
Magnification: 72-400x
Filters used: UHC, OIII, Hbeta

Description: at 400x and with OIII filter, medium sized PN, bright,
oval-shaped about 45"x41" (on drawing) along an E-W axis; sharp edges,
quite homogeneous; UHC gives a good contrast gain, OIII a very good one and
Hbeta giving no enhancement but only the central parts of the nebula are
still detectable (more Hbeta emissions near the center?); bluish color
visible at high power; bright central star of mag11.

Filter(s): Orion Ultrablock
Category: Planetary Nebulaa.
Class: 3a+2
Constellation: Cygnus
Data: mag 9.8p, central star mag 10.4, size 25"
Position: RA 19h:44m 48.2s  DEC +50 :31' 30"

Description:
This pn was blue green at all powers.  The best view was at 408x.  At this power the pn was noted to be slightly elongated with distinct, sharp edges.  The pn was uniformly illuminated except for two slightly brighter knots of nebulosity located on roughly the east and west sides.  The center of the western knot appeared nearly stellar at times.  The western knot did not appear to be directly in line with the eastern knot and central star but was located slightly to the north of this line.  The orion ultrablock appeared to give a hint of a small outer halo but I couldn't say for sure.
The drawing should have the central star in the center instead of displaced to the southeast.  At the time of this observation NGC 6826 was about 38 degrees above the horizon, the temp. was 58 degrees F., and the humidity was 88 percent.
